Blackfoot joue ce soir au New Morning

Devant la salle du New Morning, à l'entrée, un grand gaillard est juste devant moi. Chemise noire brodé de blanc et cheveux longs, le gars explique en anglais pourquoi il DOIT rentrer dans la salle malgré le fait qu'il n'a pas son billet : "I'm from the band". Eh oui c'est Mike Estes (à la guitare ce soir avec Blackfoot en remplacement de Bobby Barth qui soigne actuellement son dos).

* Norfolk A.C.

Norfolk A.C., alias Cyril Amblard, est un chanteur/compositeur/interprète français qui joue dans un style country/folk. Sur son premier album il est entouré d'autres musiciens. Ce soir il défend ses chansons seul sur scène. Et il les défend bien. Doté d'un joli timbre de voix, il sait faire passer l'émotion. Très à l'aise entre les morceaux, Norfolk A.C. parle volontiers de ses morceaux et de ses sources d'inspiration. Il rend notamment hommage à Calvin Russell, disparu récemment, en lui dédicaçant son morceau "Midnight Road". Il se fend plus tard d'une reprise du "Ghost of Tom Joad" de Bruce Springsteen. Un très bon moment. Bravo.

* Blackfoot :

Les membres de Blackfoot arrivent sur scène et attaquent pieds au plancher. Les guitares sont assurées par Charlie Hargrett, membre original du groupe, et Mike Estes (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Skinny Molly). Les deux hommes sont très charismatiques. Charlie notamment sourira TOUT le concert. La rythmique, implacable, est assurée par Greg T.Walker à la basse (Greg est également un membre fondateur de Blackfoot) et par Kurt Pietro à la batterie (Skynny Molly). Tout ce beau monde est dans une forme hallucinante et fait parler la poudre. Quelle énergie pour un groupe fondé en 1969. Greg affiche lui aussi un large sourire TOUT le concert.

Les morceaux joués ce soir datent essentiellement de la période 1979-1982 du groupe. Le son est puissant et précis. Seules les voix sont parfois un peu en retrait et le son des choeurs sera un peu brouillon vers la fin du concert. Ce ne sont là que petits détails car je salue la qualité du son, enveloppant et chaleureux.

Avec son enthousiasme communicatif et son rock sudiste puissant, Blackfoot ne tarde pas à emballer le public.

La rythmique est en béton et les musiciens vont même réussir l'exploit de me passionner pour un solo de batterie enchaîné sur un solo de batterie. Les habitués du blog connaissent mon horreur pour ces deux types de démonstration et pourtant là je prend mon pied. De sacrés musiciens. Les guitares sont déchaînées et assurent riffs impeccables et soli endiablés. Les musiciens s'éclatent visiblement sur scène et c'est partagé dans la fosse.

Brûlots après brûlots, Blackfoot assure un concert épatant.

At the entrance of the New Morning, there's a tall fellow, ahead of me, with black and white shirt and long hair. The guy explains why he MUST get into the place despite the fact he has no ticket: "I'm from the band." Well please welcome Mike Estes (guitar tonight with Blackfoot, replacing Bobby Barth who currently cares for his back).

* Norfolk A.C.

Norfolk AC, alias Cyril Amblard, is a French singer / songwriter who plays country / folk. On his first album he is surrounded by other musicians. Tonight he defends his songs alone on stage. And he defends them well. With a nice tone of voice, he knows how to bring emotion in his songs. Very talkative between songs, CA Norfolk speaks about his sources of inspiration. He pays tribute to Calvin Russell who died recently, dedicating one of his song "Midnight Road". Later he covers "Ghost of Tom Joad" by Bruce Springsteen. A very good show. Bravo.

* Blackfoot:

The members of Blackfoot arrive onstage and pull the trigger. The guitars are handled by Charlie Hargrett, original member of the band, and Mike Estes (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Skinny Molly). Both are very charismatic. Charlie smiles all through the show. The rhythmic, relentless, is provided by Greg T. Walker on bass (Greg is also a founding member of Blackfoot) and Kurt Pietro on drums (Skynny Molly). All this beautiful world is in unbelievable form. What an energy for a band founded in 1969. Greg also shows a wide smile throughout the show.

The songs played tonight are mostly from the period 1979-1982. The sound is powerful and accurate. Only the vocals are sometimes a little behind and the sound of choirs will be a bit messy towards the end of the concert. These are just small details because the sound quality was warm and enveloping.

With infectious enthusiasm Blackfoot deliver their powerful southern rock.

The guitars are raging and provide impeccable riffs and fiery soli. The musicians are obviously enjoying being on stage and this is shared in the pit.
