Bitter Ruin - Bird Eats Baby - Le Sentier des Halles - Paris - 30/10/2010 - Compte-rendu de concert - Concert review
Soirée cabaret punk au Sentier des Halles. Aménagé dans une cave, la salle est parfaite pour un concert intimiste (capacité de 120 personnes).
There is Punk Cabaret tonight at Le Sentier des Halles in Paris. Housed in a basement, the place is perfect for an intimate concert (capacity 120 people).
* Bird Eats Baby
Originaire de Brighton comme Bitter Ruin, le groupe joue une musique étonnante. La base est pop, les paroles sont alternativement sérieuses et légères, un violon vient soutenir les mélodies. Avec une batterie mixée en avant, un piano et un chant habité, je pense inévitablement aux Dresden Dolls. Ceci étant dit, Bird Eats Baby a son propre son, plus léger (moins puissant) que les Dresden Dolls. Si le groupe manque encore d'expérience, les deux chanteuses assurent le show car elles sont très sympathiques.
The band comes from Brighton UK (like Bitter Ruin) and plays some kind of pop music with lyrics alternately serious and light. The drums and bass are mixed quite loud. Then comes a piano and violin and female vocals. One can inevitably think of the Dresden Dolls. Yet Bird Eats Baby has its own sound, lighter (let’s say less powerful) than the Dresden Dolls. In my own opinion the band still lacks experience, yet the two singers are quite agreeable.

C'est le deuxième passage de Bitter Ruin à Paris. Le duo avait déjà assuré avec brio la première partie du show d'Evelyn Evelyn. Ce soir le public est majoritairement composé de personnes qui étaient justement à ce concert. Bitter Ruin confirme ce soir que non seulement ils sont brillants mais que leurs prestations scéniques gagnent encore en qualité. Le duo maîtrise dorénavant parfaitement son art. La guitare est somptueuse, le son remarquable (bravo aux techniciens). Ben et Georgia chantent magnifiquement. Tous les deux sont capables de variations de voix étonnantes, de changements de rythme osés et particulièrement bien réussis. Si j'ajoute à toutes ces qualités une merveilleuse capacité d'écriture (quelles somptueuses chansons) et une remarquable interaction avec le public, j'ose parler d'excellence. Un superbe concert.
This is Bitter Ruin’s second coming in Paris. The duo had already brilliantly ensured the first part of the show by Evelyn Evelyn late April. Tonight the audience is mostly composed of people who were at that show. Bitter Ruin confirms tonight that they are brilliant. They now perfectly masters their art. The guitar playing is superb, the sound is great (congratulations to the technicians). Georgia and Ben sing beautifully. Both are capable of amazing voice changes and amazing pace changes. They dare and they win. Adding to all these qualities a wonderful writing ability (the songs are gorgeous) and a remarkable interaction with the public, then I would talk about excellence, not less. A brilliant show.
