Lady Gaga - Monster Fish Showcase - La Maroquinerie - Paris - 31/03/2011 - Compte-rendu de concert - Concert review

Lady Gaga est ce 31 mars en showcase privé à la Maroquinerie. L'occasion exceptionnelle de découvrir Lady Gaga de prêt dans une salle très intime. La Maroquinerie est une de mes salles favorites à Paris.
Je prends une bière à la terrasse du rez de chaussée avant le show. Incroyable d'apercevoir Lady Gaga attablée dans le restaurant de la Maroquinerie. C'est vraiment un show très particulier. Dont le secret a été bien gardé.
Allez direction la salle en sous-sol. Pas de première partie, une intro acoustique résonne. Une orchestration qui me semble familière. J'entends un voisin me souffler la réponse : c'est l'instrumental "Sea of Monsters" des Beatles, issu de l'album "Yellow Submarine". Après cette entrée en matière, Lady Gaga arrive sur scène dans une magnifique robe rouge. Il faut dire que la soirée est intégralement organisée autour du thème du poisson (en clin d'oeil au morceau Monster Fish). La soirée devait d'ailleurs se dérouler initialement à la Salle Le Poisson Rouge (LPR) à New York avant d'être déplacée in extremis à Paris. Tant mieux pour nous. Comme les photos n'étaient pas autorisées lors de ce concert très privé, voici une photo de la-dite robe portée par Lady Gaga lors d'une précédente occasion.

Autre particularité de la soirée, Lady Gaga interprète des reprises. Toutes les chansons ont pour thème le poisson ou la mer. Lady Gaga est seule sur scène et s'accompagne au piano. C'est l'occasion d'apprécier sa voix, pure, dépouillée des enjolivures du studio. Le constat est clair, Lady Gaga a une très belle voix qui passe très bien sur des reprises pourtant issues de styles très variés. Grand moment d'émotion lorsque Lady Gaga rend hommage à Ronnie James Dio en reprenant "Children of the Sea" de Black Sabbath. Armée de son seul piano et de sa seule voix, Lady Gaga livre une version bouleversante de ce morceau. Autre grand moment d'émotion : la reprise d'Amsterdam de Jacques Brel, en tout point aussi belle que celle d'Amanda Palmer.
Soudain, à ma grande stupeur, j'aperçois Paul McCartney parmi les invités des premiers rangs. Quel choc! Paulo est là à quelques mètres. Je le photographie en douce. Va-t-il chanter un morceau avec Lady Gaga? Octopus Garden des Beatles?

En fait Paulo restera sagement dans la foule (partant juste avant le dernier morceau sans doute pour éviter de voler la vedette à Lady Gaga au moment où les lumières se seraient rallumées sur lui).
Lors du rappel, Lady Gaga est habillée d'une combinaison de plongée sur laquelle sont accrochés des poissons panés. Lady Gaga termine le show avec une reprise hallucinante du "Down by the seaside" de Led Zeppelin.
Au final une soirée magique. Le temps de rentrer et d'écrire ce compte-rendu, minuit est passé, nous sommes le 1er avril.

Lady Gaga is in private showcase this 31th of March at the Maroquinerie in Paris. The unique opportunity to discover Lady Gaga in a very intimate location. This location is one of my favorites in Paris. I frink a beer before the show and I can see Lady Gaga  having dinner in the Restaurant of La Maroquinerie.
I walk down the stairs towards the room in the basement. No opener tonight, an acosutic intro can be heard. An orchestration that seems familiar. I neighbour gives me the answer: it's the instrumental "Sea of Monsters" by the Beatles, from the album "Yellow Submarine". After this introduction, Lady Gaga arrives onstage in a gorgeous red dress. It must be said that the event is fully organized around the theme of fish (in a tribute to the song Monster Fish). The evening was initially to take place at Le Poisson Rouge (LPR) in New York before being moved to Paris in extremis. Good for us. As the photos were not allowed during this very private concert, here is a photo of the same dress at a previous occasion. During all the evening, Lady Gaga will perform covers. All songs are on the theme of fish or sea. Lady Gaga is alone on stage and accompaniying herself on piano. This is an opportunity to appreciate her voice, pure, stripped from any studio embellishments. The picture is clear, Lady Gaga has a beautiful voice that goes very well on these songs from many different styles. Very emotional moment when Lady Gaga gives tribute to Ronnie James Dio, covering "Children of the Sea" by Black Sabbath. Armed with only her piano and voice, Lady Gaga delivers a shattering version of this song. Another great moment of emotion : the takeover of Amsterdam by Jacques Brel, every bit as beautiful as the one by Amanda Palmer (remember La Boule Noire in Paris). Suddenly, to my amazement, I saw Paul McCartney among the guests in the front rows. What a shock! Paulo is a few meters from me. I photograph him discretly. Will he sing a song with Lady Gaga? Octopus Garden by The Beatles? Indeed Paulo remains quietly in the crowd (leaving just before the last song, probably to avoid stealing the limelight from Lady Gaga when the lights are relit on him).
When recalling, Lady Gaga is wearing a wetsuit on which are hung breaded fish. Lady Gaga ends the show with a haunting reprise of "Down by the Seaside" by Led Zeppelin.
In the end a magical evening. The time to go home and write this review, it's past midnight, today is April the 1st.
